ARDEE TO RECEIVE BOOST TO BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE -

Labour Senator Mary Moran attended the announcement by Minister Pat Rabbitte and enet this morning that Ardee is to become one of three new fibredirect towns in Ireland.  enet will be investing €2.5m in broadband infrastructure in Ardee, Kilkenny and Loughrea. 'I am delighted that Ardee has been selected for this significant investment and will become a new fibredirect town.  This investment will see fibre brought into every business in Ardee and will enable businesses access to superfast fibre broadband.  This new 'fibre to the business' network planned for Ardee will give businesses the ability to access broadband with access speeds up to 250Mbs. 'I believe this investment will have a positive impact for business owners in Ardee and the local economy.  The 'fibre to business' network will provide businesses with further options in which to expand on the digital market and provide suitable broadband speed and access in which to do their business. enet CEO, Conal Henry has assured that enet will be actively engaging with the businesses in Ardee over the next few weeks. 'There are still many towns and areas in Co. Louth with poor broadband access and speed.  Much of our work and communication is now online and we need to continue to provide equality across the country in this area.   'This announcement by Minister Rabbitte and enet is very welcome for Ardee and I hope to see continued investment of this nature in Co. Louth going forward.'

3 Louth beaches retain Blue Flag

Congratulations to Louth’s three main beaches which yesterday all retained their blue flag status.


A blue flag is given in recognition of high water quality, safety provision and infrastructure.

Templetown in north Louth, as well as Port and Clogherhead in the south of the county all retained their status as three of 80 blue flag beaches around the country.

Louth events for teenagers in National Recreation Week 2-8th June

National Recreation Week 2014 will run from Monday, 2nd until Sunday, 8th June. The focus for this year’s events is on giving young people an opportunity to participate in recreation activities they have never before tried.

National Recreation Week is underpinned by a recognition of the importance of recreational activities for the physical and mental wellbeing of all children. This designated week will provide opportunities for young people to try new activities they may not have tried before while also increasing public awareness of the importance of recreation for teenagers.”


Events for National Recreation Week are funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and are supported by a network of key Local Authority managers and staff responsible for the local delivery of play and recreation services in communities across the country. This network was established as the Local Authority Play and Recreation Network in 2012 to introduce a more coordinated and interagency approach to achieving the main goals of the play and recreation policies at both national and local level.

One of the national outcomes in the recently launched Better Outcomes: Brighter Futures – The National Policy Framework for Children and Young People (2014-2020) is the active and healthy physical and mental wellbeing of all children. One of the specific aims of realising this outcome is that all children will enjoy play, recreation, sport, arts culture and nature.
