Expressing My Full Support For DkIT Staff On Picket Lines This Morning

I have expressed my full support for DkIT Teachers' Union of Ireland staff on the picket lines today. I also attended a meeting with DkIT TUI representatives this morning to discuss the issues facing the institution.

I've met with DkIT TUI representatives previously in December where they outlined the funding and resource issues being experienced by staff and students.  I immediately raised the concerns of the group with the Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan TD and strongly expressed my full support for further resources and funding being made available to DkIT.  I also wrote to the Oireachtas Education Committee seeking a meeting where DkIT staff would have an opportunity to raise their concerns.

I met with staff this morning on the picket lines and expressed my full support.  DkIT is a vital educational institution in our region and we must ensure it is appropriately it is supported right across the community.

During my five years in the Seanad I have promoted DkIT at every opportunity nationally, regionally and locally.  I have made resources for DkIT one of my top education priorities if elected to the next Dáil.

I would commend the staff on the picket lines who are raising these issues on behalf of their students so that they may have a better quality education in terms of class sizes, technology and environment.

As a DkIT graduate I want to ensure the institution thrives in our community and supports students at third level to continue to attain the skills which are needed in the job market.  In order for our country to prosper we need to invest in our youth.
