Moran Urges Louth County Council To Host a Public Event To Celebrate Dundalk FC
Today (23rd October 2015) I am urging Louth County Council to host a public event for Dundalk FC to celebrate another excellent season for the team who have retained the SSE Aertricity League.
It is estimated that up to 10,000 people will now attend the Aviva Stadium to support the Lillywhites when they face Cork City on 8 November when the team hope to return to Dundalk with the cup securing a major double achievement for the town.
I have spoken with officials from the club during the week who agree an opportunity for the people of Dundalk to honour the team and their remarkable achievements would be most welcome.
I have contacted Louth County Council and am disappointed that the Council's response to me about this matter has been to say that they do not have a budget for such an event. I would urge them to work with the club to provide a public platform for people to show their support for the team.
From a health and safety aspect this would also ensure that celebrations would be safe and secure.
I would also add my call once again to the businesses shops and residences in the town to participate in the ongoing Black and White campaign to show support for the team by displaying the black and white colours at every opportunity.
I would personally like to again commend the team who under the managerial skills of Stephen Kenny have once again shown Dundalk have the best soccer team in the country. A civic reception and public display of support for the team is nothing less than the team deserve and I hope that Louth County Council will ensure this can happen.
When the decision to change the appearance of the town square was taken it was mooted that it would provide an ideal place for public and community events - now is the time to show this by hosting the team and honouring their remarkable achievements.
