I once again welcomed Minister for State, Kevin Humphreys TD to Dundalk on Tuesday, 29th September.  Minister Humphreys had a number of engagements while visiting Dundalk including:

  • Visit to Vesta Corporation to meet with management .
  • Visit to O'Fiaich College to meet students who have recently begun a FETAC  level 4 general education programme
  • Presentation of certificates to 19 successful participants on the Learning for Life Programme Diageo who completed a level 6 Hospitality training programme delivered by Dundalk Institute of Technology
  • Presentation of certificates to First Step participants and employer representatives
  • Presentation of certificates to successful participants on the LMETB/Skillsnet/Horseware/DSP Warehousing Training Programme which provided training to 14 participants
  • Officially opened new  Citizens information Centre at Adelphi Court and launched new Disability Booklets
  • Met with numerous local employers and people engaging in training and employment programmes

I was delighted to accompany Minister Humphreys on his visit to Dundalk.  The Minister had the opportunity to see first hand the efforts locally to address long-term unemployment.

I along with the Minister were very impressed with the commitment shown by local employers and local educational institutions such as Dundalk Institute of Technology and O'Fiaich College.

Soon after his appointment as Minister of State in the Department of Social Protection I invited Minister Humphreys to visit Dundalk in October 2014 where he met with local employers and those engaged in activation and training programmes.  Since this time I have continued to impress upon the Minister and the Tánaiste the importance of addressing long-term and youth unemployment in Dundalk.

I would like to congratulate the participants on the First Step programme, Learning for Life Programme Diageo and LMETB/Skillsnet/Horseware/DSP Warehousing Training Programme on their hard work and achievement as they received their certificates today.
