Children's Remembrance Event in Cavan on Sunday 16th Nov

On Sunday, 16th November, 2014 at 3pm staff of the maternity and paediatric units of Cavan General Hospital are holding their annual Children’s Remembrance Event in St. Patrick's Pastoral Centre, Cavan town.

Parents and families who have experienced the loss of a baby or child from early miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death right through to the teenage years are welcome to attend.  This year's event will be music led with the contemplative and spiritual tones of ‘The Song Sisters’.

Louise Dempsey, Bereavement Support Nurse, Cavan General said "The loss of a child, be it before or around the time of birth or throughout the childhood years, represents one of the most complex and distressing losses facing a parent.  Families who face this particular type of loss, if unsupported, face any number of physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual challenges.  The aim of this event is to provide a safe and open space for families where they can have some time for quiet contemplation and reflection or be able to speak with other families, or indeed staff members, about their loss.  The comfort they receive from knowing they are not alone is often the mitigating factor in the prevention of prolonged complicated grief reactions."

Refreshments will be served after the event, when families will have the opportunity to view ‘The Children’s Book of Remembrance’ and have a chat with staff from the hospital and other families.
