'We have seen a significant improvement from this point last year when approximately 43,000 students had been awarded their student grant funding. As of Friday, 54,000 students have received confirmation that they have been awarded a grant and 43,000 students have been paid throughout the month of October. Over 100,000 applications have been received by SUSI for the 2014/2015 academic year with approximately 40,000 of these being new applications.
'The improvements to the student grant application system are very welcome and I look forward to continued progress and efficiencies for students and families applying in the coming years. It is crucial that the grant system be efficient, customer friendly and informative as applying and awaiting confirmation of a student grant can be stressful.'
