26 Louth Schools Allocated Funding Under 2015 Summer Works Scheme

I welcome the announcement this morning by Minister Jan O'Sullivan that 26 Louth primary and post-primary schools have been allocated funding under the 2015 Summer Works Scheme.  Minister O'Sullivan has allocated €36m in total this year towards the scheme, benefitting some 559 schools nationwide

The Summer Works Scheme provides for vital small to medium scale works for our schools and I warmly welcome the announcement that 26 Louth schools are to benefit.  The works will be carried out this summer and will include upgrades for windows as well as structural, external and environmental improvements.

We are committed to providing safe, warm and quality learning environments for students which is evidenced by the over €450 million that will be invested by the Department of Education this year in school infrastructure.

This is positive news for schools and the local community as it will also provide an important capital injection to the construction sector and boost job creation.  The twin benefits of the scheme - ensuring that vital school repairs take place while also generating local construction work - are very welcome.

I am delighted that these improvements will be made in 26 primary and post-primary schools in the county and students, teachers and staff will directly benefit come September 2015.
