Recognition of World Autism Awareness Day Important Step

I welcome the confirmation today by Minister Kathleen Lynch that World Autism Awareness Day will be recognised by Government on 2nd April.

In recent years I have made representations to my Ministerial colleagues and Department officials regarding turning Government and OPW Buildings blue to raise awareness for autism.  I am delighted that Minister Lynch has confirmed today that Government will recognise World Autism Awareness Day on 2nd April and these buildings will go blue across the country.

The confirmation received today is an important step forward in progressing awareness of the needs and challenges facing children and adults  with autism.  This should also present an opportunity to stress inclusiveness in all aspects of life as well as the positive contributions and array of talents people with autism bring to our society.

I look forward to Government and OPW buildings turning blue on 2nd April in an effort to raise awareness and generate national conversation on autism.
