Congratulations to the County Museum in Dundalk

A well-deserved award for our excellent museum.

The County Museum, Dundalk is celebrating being named as the Best Local Authority Museum in this year’s Irish Public Sector Magazine Awards.

Curator Brian Walsh said this week that he along with his colleagues in the Museum are celebrating the achievement.
“Of course, we were all absolutely delighted to hear that we had won the award. It is, I suppose, particularly special to receive this recognition in our 20th anniversary year.”
Mr Walsh added that the award reflects the quality projects and exhibitions undertaken within the County and the hours of work that go on in the background.
“We have a significant turnover of successful projects and exhibitions in the County Museum. Many are groundbreaking and innovative, be it welcoming Cassie, our virtual presenter, bringing a full size Boyne Currach to the Irish Maritime Festival in Drogheda, or – as we are currently working on – incorporating a visual of the GPO facade into the set for our major 1916 exhibition which will open in the near future.
“But these plans are not simply put together. It takes an incredible amount of time and effort which I am delighted to say the team here in the County Museum take on without question.
“This, along with the support of Louth County Council and, previously, Dundalk Town Council has enabled the County Museum, to become involved in the community in a meaningful and lasting way. In that sense, the award is a true team effort that we think Dundalk and Louth as a whole should be proud of.”
