Parents in Co Louth urged to think fire safety this Halloween
Labour Senator Mary Moran is urging local parents to be aware of fire risks ahead of tonight’s Halloween celebrations.
“Halloween is a wonderful time, particularly for children, and I would encourage families and communities in Co. Louth to enjoy the evening safely.
“However some activities associated with Halloween can present real dangers. Illegal bonfires, often organised without the knowledge of parents or authorities, can present real fire safety hazards. We all know of accidents that have occurred around this time of year, where bonfires have got out of control, or where fireworks have caused injury.
“Simple steps like buying flame-resistant costumes and masks for children can help to avoid life-threatening injuries caused by dangerous fireworks.
“The members of our local fire services do excellent work at the best of times, but they can be particularly stretched at Halloween. Simple, safety-conscious behaviour can prevent situations getting out of hand, and having to involve the fire services."
