Labour Senator Mary Moran has called on Sinn Féin and Deputy Gerry Adams to apologise without excuses to Mairia Cahill and the other victims of abuse who were dealt with by 'kangaroo courts' after revealing their abuse.
'I raised in the Seanad today
the urgent need for Sinn Féin and Deputy Adams to comprehensively
address the series events Mairia Cahill has laid out and the use of
'kangaroo courts'
to carry out investigations into sexual abuse. The slow trickle of
information that has been dripping out--the little slips and
admissions--on foot of the BBC programme is wholly unacceptable. It's
time for Sinn Féin to be truthful and to respect Mairia and
the other victims who were subjected to this form of 'justice'.
'Mairia Cahill deserves to be
commended for sharing her story and for waiving her anonymity to pursue
justice for herself and other sexual abuse victims. I believe and
support Mairia.
'The public deserves for Deputy Adams and his party to be honest and forthright regarding this matter now.'
